Family Fun at the Lake

In preparation for our trip to the lake, I tried Mia's life jacket on at home last week.  It surprised me that it didn't bother her at all.  In fact, she just went about her business without seeming to notice it much.  That was a relief because I wasn't sure if she would want to wear it.  I thought I would have to get her used to it so that she didn't meltdown at the lake, but it was no problem.

We met Carol Ann and Keith at Lake Texoma on Thursday.  We stayed at a really nice resort called Tanglewood.  They had a playground that we took Mia to several times.  She had a blast.  We went swimming in the pool the first evening we were there.  On the way to the pool, Mia was hurrying a little too fast and tripped which resulted in her first set of skinned knees.  She didn't really cry, but she wanted the dirt off of her hands immediately.  She doesn't care about any other part of her being dirty, but she wants her hands to be clean.  Mia thought it was great fun to blow bubbles in the water at the pool.  She also enjoyed the waterfall that ran into the pool, but she clung to me pretty close at first.  By the time we had been in the water for awhile, I was holding her out on her back while she kicked her feet.  As with most things, she wasn't exactly afraid at first, just hesitant.  When she sees that there is nothing to worry about, she usually loosens up.

Uncle Darvey joined us on Friday.  Carol Ann and I got massages at the spa.  In the afternoon, Wesley, Darvey, and Keith went to the driving range for awhile.  We all went down to the marina to check out the boats.  Mia was very interested and wanted to get down to walk around.  Um, nope, sorry kiddo.  Baby+deep water+no railing=disaster.  She really liked watching all of the ducks and geese swimming around.

We took a pontoon out on the lake on Saturday.  The weather was really nice for being out on the water.  It was Mia's first time on a boat as well as her first time swimming in a lake.  I had her slathered up with sunscreen plus her sunglasses and a hat on her head.  The first thing we did was put her life jacket on.  She wasn't quite sure what was going on.  She seemed a little dazed as we left the marina and headed for the middle of the lake.  We found a nice little cove for fishing, but I'm sure the fish didn't stick around long since we all jumped into the water one after another.  Mia wore her life jacket and also rode around in an inflatable pool toy.  She enjoyed herself.  We're already talking about going again next summer!
