17 Months Old

Mia turned 17 months old today. She spent part of the day not feeling well. Yesterday, I picked her up early from daycare with a temperature of 102. She still wasn't feeling well at bedtime, so I let her sleep with me. She woke up several times during the night crying like she was in pain. She normally gets a low grade fever when a tooth is coming in, so I assume that was the problem. The fever was still there this morning but only hit around 100-101 all morning. Mia took a three hour nap, though. When she woke up, I could tell she felt a lot better. Her fever has been gone since then. I'm glad. I don't like it when my baby isn't feeling well. She perked up in the afternoon, and we played in her room for awhile. I think she just needed a quiet day at home with her mommy. That's usually the best medicine!

She's finally tall enough to climb into the rocking chair.

Shop Til Ya Drop

Amelia is such a good little shopper that I took her to the mall last Saturday. I needed to get my brakes replaced, so we shopped while that got done at Sears. I knew it would take awhile, but Mia and I were both tired of shopping by the time the car was ready four hours later! Something about they ordered the wrong part and had to wait for the right one to be brought over is what they said. Mia was very well behaved and even fell asleep for about 3o minutes while we were milling around the mall. She got kind of messy with her food, so we had to do a wardrobe change after her snack. Everything went well until the last ten minutes when Mia had a total meltdown. She was ready to go home and wasn't going to take no for an answer! The new brakes are great. No more squeaky noises!

Family Reunion

Last Saturday we had a family reunion in Oklahoma. It was for my mom's side of the family as well as some friends from Georgia. Papa was in the Air Force with Mr. Wilkes many moons ago. Both families lived on the same Air Force base in California. Mr. and Mrs. Wilkes had a son who spent a lot of time with my mom, aunts, and uncles. They all came to the reunion as well as their son's wife and their three kids. Many people came, and it was packed!

Tyler and Shawnna brought my adorable nephew, Connor, who is three months old. Mia didn't notice him at first. She just ran around all over the place laughing and playing. That is, until she realized that her mommy was holding another baby! Apparently, that is unacceptable to my little pumpkin! She ran over and held her arms out to me to be picked up. My mom picked her up instead. You should have seen her face. That lower lip couldn't have been stuck out any further! She was so jealous! I had to get in a little cuddle time with Connor, though. He's too cute!

The place we had the reunion also had a pool, so several people swam. I didn't remember that there was a pool, so I didn't pack any swimming stuff for Mia. Luckily, my cousin, Hilarie, had brought an extra swimming diaper, so Mia got in the pool with her. I love being with family, so I really enjoyed the day.

Drawbridge

My dad, Bev, Ryan, Shayna, and Kaylee came down to Dallas a couple of weeks ago. They went to Six Flags while I was at work since Mia can't spend all day out in the heat. That weekend we all went to the Dallas World Aquarium which is always a favorite of ours. We also went to Medieval Times. I had never been there, and it was fun. Mia enjoyed it, too. She behaved very well, and she liked to watch the horses running around as well as the sword fights. Although it was very loud, Mia managed to fall asleep for the last 20 minutes or so. It was a fun-filled weekend! I didn't have my camera most of the time, but I managed to take a few pictures with my phone. At one point while we were at the house, Kaylee was sitting in Mia's Tinkerbell chair. Mia wanted her to get out of it, so she tried to crawl under her to boot her out! Silly girl, she thought it was really funny!

Mia's First Haircut

We took Mia a couple of weeks ago to get her first haircut. I only wanted it trimmed, but I was too nervous to try to do it myself. It was starting to look pretty shaggy. Because it had never been cut, the hairs were all different lengths. We took Mia to a children's barber shop in University Park. It wasn't close to our house at all, but I wanted to take her somewhere that had experience with kids. The inside looked like a playground. Each chair had its own tv with a movie playing. Mia played with some toys while the lady cut her hair. Mia behaved so well! I was so proud of my girl! They saved some of the hair clippings for me, and Mia got a certificate for being such a good girl for her first haircut. She also got a prize out of the prize machine. It was a really cute place. We will probably use them again.

Second Symphony in the Park

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed their second annual Symphony in the Park at Kidd Springs Park last week. Nana went with Wesley, Mia and I again this year. She also brought Kendra down from OKC to see it too. Uncle Darvey came down from Heavener as well, so we all had a great time. I figured that because Mia is a little ball of energy now, we would be chasing her all over the place that evening. I was totally wrong. She behaved like an angel and didn't wander off. She kept sitting down in her Mickey Mouse folding chair and then getting up repeatedly, but she just stayed right by all of us. The only little snag came when I let her play with my phone for a minute. Big mistake! Somehow she dialed 911 and hung up even though I had my phone locked. How does a one year old figure that out? Anyway, they called my phone back and I had to explain and apologize. Obviously, I don't let her play with my phone anymore. The music was amazing as always. You can't beat a free outdoor concert two blocks from your house. Another lovely evening in Big D!

25 Year Rewind

My mom gave me a dress awhile back that she said was mine when I was a little girl. I couldn't resist trying it on Mia. I love that Mia goes with the flow when I want to dress her up and take pictures. I'll bet she likes to play dress-up when she gets older.

Mom and Rachel came down here to Dallas to watch Mia a couple of weeks ago. Wesley and I spent the entire night at an American Cancer Society fundraiser. It was fun but exhausting. I got home around 7am. Mom, Rach, Mia, and I then went over to a community yard sale at the park. There was a lot of baby stuff for sale, and Rach made out like a bandit. After I'd had a nap, the four of us let Wesley sleep. We went over to Arlington for some shopping. We got Rachel loaded up at Babies R Us. Grammy also bought Mia a purple Tinkerbell rocking chair there. Mia loves it! She likes to grab a book or a snack and curl up in her chair. Like mother, like daughter. It's really adorable! She alternates between her Tinkerbell chair and her Elmo chair.

I've been working with Mia on a couple of animal sounds. We both like to growl like bears. When I try to get her to sound like a monkey, I say, " Oo oo, ah ah". Mia says " Oo ah, oo ah, oo ah." Hmm, maybe I'd better get that on video. It doesn't translate very cleary to written form. You just have to hear it!
