Seeing Double

Mimi, Aunt Rachel, and Zoey came for a visit this weekend.  It was Zoey's first road trip.  We had fun shopping on Saturday, but we didn't last very long.  It was just too hot.  That's pretty bad when it's too hot to even shop.  We did, however, go to Babies R Us.  Mia got a new pair of Elmo house shoes that she seems to be fond of.  On Sunday, Mia stayed at the house with Mimi while Wesley and I went to Wal-Mart.  It's amazing how fast you can get in and out of Wal-Mart when you're not continuously retrieving sippy cups from the floor and saving the bread from getting squished.

Mia was much more interested in Zoey this time.  She did okay some of the time with Mom or I holding a baby other than her.  The first thing she did when we got home this afternoon was look around for Zoey saying, "baby? baby?"  We were able to use some of Mia's baby gear for Zoey this weekend.  Rach put Zoey in the baby swing which Zoey liked a lot, but Mia wanted to help her swing.  She was trying to swing it pretty hard, so we had to keep an eye on her.  Also, I gave Zoey a bath in Mia's little baby bathtub in the sink.  It's easier to give a bath standing up than bent over the bathtub.

Double vision.  Mia and Zoey wearing their matching outfits.  I foresee this happening often in their future because their mommas and Mimi think it's adorable!

Some Like It Hot

We have had several consecutive days of 100+ degree heat here.  Even if I felt brave enough to get out in it (which I don't), there's no way I'd take Mia out there.  We had to find indoor activities to occupy ourselves with today.  That can be challenging when Mia has so much energy.  Sometimes she just wants to run wild.  We took down the baby gates yesterday, so we've had to keep a closer eye on her.  We read books, played with her toys, danced to Veggie Tales songs...

I got out Mia's bowling set, but she doesn't get the concept of it yet.  She kept throwing the ball wildly in all directions and giggling hysterically as I scrambled to catch it before it went under the furniture.  She finally knocked a few down after several repeated attempts.  Her best score came when she accidentally knocked eight or nine of them down with her foot and kept saying, "Uh oh! Uh oh!"  I told her that it was okay, and that's what we wanted to do.  She didn't seem to like that and wanted to pick them all back up to put them in order again.

Next, we got out the bubble gun that Nana got for Mia.  I finally found some batteries, so we tried it out.  Mia loved it!  She kept yelling, "BUBBAS! BUBBAS!" (bubbles).  She would laugh and swipe at the air trying to catch them.  This went on for quite awhile until she decided that she wanted to operate the bubble gun herself.  I showed her how, and you would've thought it was the most hilarious thing ever!  Thanks Nana, the bubble gun was a hit!

When seeing the corresponding picture to the next activity, you may ask, "Why did you allow your child to color on the custom-designed armchair?"  That was because Crayola loves all moms.  I know this because they invented the awesome Color Wonder markers and coloring books.  I love that the markers only mark on the Color Wonder paper and not on anything else.  Crayola has a special place in my heart.

We had to repeatedly string together a bunch of pop links and then take them all apart.  We did this over, and over, and over...!

Just chillin'

Toy Sandwich

It's funny the random things that keep kids preoccupied.  Mia busied herself with taking toys out of her basket one by one and piling them on a floor cushion on the other side of her room.  When she was finished, she knocked another cushion on top of it, creating a "toy sandwich".  She then returned all of her toys, again one by one, to her basket.

One of Mia's new fun things to do is act like an airplane.  She runs across the room with her arms flailed out behind her.  I guess she does a lot of her "tricks" at daycare.  Her teachers said the other day that one kid was attempting the "senior photo" pose and another kid now mimics Mia's version of what a monkey sounds like.  I guess she's a toddler trendsetter.

Her hair is getting long again.  I am trying so hard not to have them just cut bangs.  I really want Mia's hair to grow out, but it is so unruly!  It refuses to part and just sits on her head in a wild mess most of the time.  This is because she refuses to keep any kind of bow or barrette in her hair.  However, I bought her some tiny, clear ponytail holders that seem to stay put.  They are too small for her to get a hold of I guess.  In any case, I was super excited that the ponytail was still intact when I picked her up from daycare today.
One happy girl!
