Home Run Derby

Mia is always such a bundle of energy. Even though she's not mobile yet, she always wants to be on the go. She wants to be walked around and played with. First she's in the exersaucer, then the bumbo chair, then the playmat, then the swing...but there are a few things she will sit still for. At least, she'll be still for a little while. One of those things is reading a book. She is fascinated with the pictures. She'll just sit in my lap for the whole story usually. She just listens and sometimes tries to help turn the page. Another thing that captures her attention is sports. She enjoys watching baseball and hockey on tv. She'll just sit and stare. I don't know if it's the noise, the colors, or the motion, but she likes it. We'll have to wait for football season to find out if she likes that. Tonight is the MLB home run derby. It is still going on as I'm typing. Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers just hit his 16th homer of the evening to advance to the finals. He'll be up against either Ron Howard or Prince Fielder. I'm not staying up for the whole thing. I hope Nelly wins, though. That would be a feather in the Rangers' cap. Josh Hamilton hit 35 home runs in last year's derby. He didn't win, but that is an amazing accomplishment. Mia has her own Josh Hamilton t-shirt. She was watching the derby for awhile when it first started. She only made it until 8:30 before she fell asleep. That's her bedtime, and she rarely stays up past that. I've been working on this post long enough now that Prince Fielder hit enough home runs to make it to the final round with Nelly. We've got our fingers crossed!

Reading Johnny Lion's Book with Mommy

An excited Mia waits for the home run derby to begin.

Telling Xander to be quiet so she can hear.

Watching Ozzie Smith right before he throws out the first pitch.
This is Mia NOT watching Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals.
She only had eyes for Nelson Cruz tonight.
Good luck Nelly!
