Holly Golightly Part II

Part II of the Tiffany and Co. photos.
The remaining pictures were taken at Neiman Marcus

Little Holly Golightly

When looking online for a Halloween costume for Mia, she zeroed in on a fluffy black dress that "looks like a tutu" in her words.  She said that she loved it because it was beautiful, and it would twirl.  It was obvious that the dress was meant to look like a little girl's version of Audrey Hepburn's iconic look in Breakfast at Tiffany's.  However, that website did not sell any of the accessories needed to pull off the look.  It took me a couple of weeks to locate all of the pieces she needed (each from a different website...geez), but I was excited for her to dress up as Holly Golightly since Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies.  Mia has never seen the movie, so she didn't get the reference.  All she knew was that she would get to essentially dress up like a princess.

I got the idea that I wanted to take her to North Park Mall here in Dallas to do a pre-Halloween photo shoot at Tiffany's.  My mother-in-law went with me to help out.  I'm so glad that she did.  It was actually quite a bit of work, and I was grateful to have her there.  Plus, it was so fun to share it with her!  At North Park, I decided to take Mia in through Neiman Marcus because that would put us right at Tiffany's when we entered the mall.  I didn't want her traipsing through the mall with people's curious eyes on her the whole way.  As we passed through Neiman Marcus, many people smiled and even exclaimed how beautiful Mia looked.  She looked like a little Audrey for sure.  A couple of the employees there even asked her to stop so that they could take pictures of her with their phones.  One remarked that it was the best costume she'd ever seen.  Mia was having the time of her life.  I can't explain how much she loved the experience.  When we got to Tiffany & Co., the staff said that we were welcome to photograph her as long as we didn't take pictures of the jewelry in the store.  That made it a bit of a challenge.  However, we were allowed to take some pictures with the jewelry cases in Neiman Marcus afterward, so that was nice.  Taking Mia's pictures all dressed up at Tiffany's was a memory that I will always hold dear.  It was like a dream come true for me, and I hope that Mia will cherish those memories as well.  I love so many of the pictures, and I don't think I will choose between my favorites.  I'll just put all of the best ones on here. :)  I think I'd better split them into two posts, though.  Admittedly, there are quite a few of them.

Quinn at 1 Year Old

My friend, Julie, took Quinn's 1 year old pictures.  They are so precious.  It's crazy how difficult it is to get a kid that young to sit still and look at the camera.  What you don't see just outside the view of each picture is me waiting to catch him if he falls or holding out a snack to get his attention.  He ate a lot of Cheerios that afternoon. Haha!  It was fun, and I love how the pictures turned out!  Here are some of my favorites.

School Days

Mia wears a uniform to school, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they frequently do special days where the kids get to wear other clothes.  That's a nice change once in awhile.  The school has fun with it, and there's always a theme associated with those days.  Mia especially loved the day that she got to wear pajamas to school.  She thought that was the bomb.

She is liking her new school, but there has been some adjusting.  As we expected this school is stricter than her daycare.  She is learning a lot, and she's getting better at things like raising her hand, etc.  There have been some challenges, but she's doing great.  One of the reasons I wanted to get her into this preschool was so that she could learn the rules and processes of being in public school to prepare her for kindergarten.  I just want her to have fun while she learns.  It helps to have a couple of friends with kids in Mia's class because we can encourage each other and get excited for our kids as they grow and just enjoy their childhood.

Park Over the Freeway

Dallas constructed the neatest park downtown.  The built it over Woodall Rogers Freeway.  I was skeptical when it was first announced that they were going to build it.  I'd never heard of a concept like that, and I wasn't really sure what to expect.  It definitely didn't sound appealing in theory.  Granted, I didn't read about the plans for it at length, but I just thought I'd wait to see the finished product.  We finally went to visit Klyde Warren Park, and I must say that it was really something.  It was beautiful, well thought out, and PACKED.  We went on Saturday afternoon, so there were a ton of people.  There were also food trucks parked along the sidewalk in case you got hungry.  One of the weird notions I had in my head is that the park would sway a little or otherwise indicate all of the traffic flowing beneath it.  I was totally wrong about that, though.  It was as firm as solid ground.  I loved the atmosphere!  Mia loved running around in the grass.  Sometimes it doesn't take much to make that kid happy!

Pumpkin Patch

It was a little cool and somewhat rainy, but I took the kids to the pumpkin patch on Saturday.  It's something I always try to do.  Mia always has a lot of fun.  She met up with a couple of her school chums and had a ball.  She begged me for some cotton candy.  As you would imagine, she was super duper sticky afterwards but loved every bit of it. After games, bounce houses, a petting zoo, and face painting, we headed home for some lunch.  I love that we've made going to this pumpkin patch a fall tradition.

They were handing out these free beanies, but Q's head was too big.  He yanked it off immediately.
