Turkey Weekend

Mia had her ups and downs with being sick this weekend, but overall, we had a great time. It was hard to go back to Mom's each time she was due for a breathing treatment, but we made it work. I think she's starting to feel better. We go back to see Dr. Curry in the morning. I guess we'll go from there.

Thanksgiving Day was hectic, but it was so good to see everyone. I forgot to bring my camera half of the time, though. I'm hoping everyone will e-mail me their pictures to fill in the gaps (hint! hint!).

On Saturday, we went to a birthday party for my cousin's little boy. Dawson turned 4, and he is apparently way into pirates. It was a really cute party. Later that evening, we went to Ft. Smith with Uncle Darvey and Ruth to meet Nana and Keith for dinner. Afterward, we all went over to Uncle Tommy and Aunt Pat's house (Sorry, it's hard for me to call him Uncle Booger). We had a nice visit.

We saw a lot of people throughout the weekend. I can't remember everything that happened right now. Time to go to sleep and recharge my battery! Please, send me pictures from this weekend!

Under the Weather

Mia had another "first" yesterday. She was sick, so we went for our first unscheduled doctor's visit due to illness. She's had a runny nose for several weeks, but then again who hasn't, right? However, the drainage has been worse the past few days, and she's developed a cough. I picked her up from daycare early yesterday because she was running a fever. I noticed she was making a wheezing sound, so these were all indicators to me to go see Dr. Curry. He said that it sounds like she has a virus, so he wanted to do a breathing treatment in the office. Afterwards, he thought she sounded a little better. He gave us our own nebulizer to do the treatments at home. We get to do those every 4-6 hours. Let me tell ya...it's no fun for any of us. I always want her to be happy, but some things are for her own good. I guess I had my own "first" when we gave her the breathing treatment this morning. It was the first time I have had to hold my child down for medical purposes. She kept batting away the nebulizer, so Wesley held it while I held her arms. It was not the most pleasant experience. After lunch, we get to do it again. She's also taking a liquid medicine twice a day. I'm hoping she will feel better by tomorrow, so that she can enjoy our time with family on the holiday.
This is about as happy as she's been today.

Funny Face

One of my favorite pj's of Mia's have bunny rabbits on the feet. As anyone who has read this blog in the past knows, I love jammies with animals on the feet. I've put pictures on here of Mia's duck jammies and ladybug jammies. She also had some bumblebee jammies. Today, I'm including the bunny jammies picture.

Mia loved both the acorn squash and the blueberries. As previously mentioned, each blueberry was cut into four pieces. I didn't anticipate that she would keep the blueberry skins in her mouth. She would chew the soft inner fruit, and it was as if she wasn't sure what to do with the outer skin. I had to give her plenty of time to swallow it. We bought her zucchini and broccoli today. I'm feeling good about those two. I think she'll like them.

I can remember that while Mia and I were still in the hospital right after she was born, she would curl her tongue a lot. She was just a day or two old. I assume all newborns must do it, but I wasn't aware of that. She just looked so cute. She still makes that face sometimes. Just by chance, I caught her doing it with the camera. She started out smiling, but by the time the flash went off, she was making another face.

Piggyback Ride

Mia has a few different stuffed frogs. One of them has very long arms and legs. When Mia received it as a gift from Nanny and Papa, the arms and legs were wrapped around a fleece blanket and attached together with velcro. The frog, who incidentally is called "Mama Frog" by us, has rosy cheeks and usually sits with her arms around the little frogs. Right now, Mia loves to pull things out of baskets or down off of furniture. She busied herself with tossing each frog from the rocking chair into the floor the other evening. Mama Frog had her arms empty for once, so Mia gave her a piggyback ride around her room. Mia thought it was so funny that Mama Frog was on her back.

We have given Mia eggplant for dinner for the past two nights. She doesn't like it AT ALL. That's okay with me because I don't like it at all either. I just don't want my culinary limits to deprive Mia of things she might otherwise enjoy. That only makes her second food dislike, though. Just peas and eggplant. Everything else she has loved. Originally, I gave her the peas in pureed form. I bought some frozen peas, though, and plan to serve them to her as finger food. Maybe she'll like them that way. Mia's next two new foods will be acorn squash and blueberries. She loves butternut squash, so we are trying another variety of winter squash. The blueberries are a little large for my liking as far as finger food. Ever the paranoid mommy, I'll probably cut or mash them a little at first. The thought of Mia choking is one of my biggest fears. I fed her some avocado last night that was cut up so small she could hardly pick it up. Better safe than sorry, I say.

Going on Safari

Things have been pretty busy around the home front lately. My friend, Jill, came over and baby-sat Mia on Saturday so that Wesley and I could go out for an anniversary dinner. November 5th was our four year wedding anniversary. Some people like to say, "Oh how sweet! You're still practically newlyweds!" Perhaps, until you consider that if you add in how long we've dated, we've been together for ten years. We're like peanut butter and jelly: just perfect together. We drove over to downtown Ft. Worth for dinner. I love the way that downtown looks this time of year. Every tree is full of Christmas lights and there are people everywhere with delicious smells coming out of the storefronts. We had planned to eat at PF Chang's, but the wait was over an hour. Deciding that it wasn't a good idea to stay out late since our little early bird would be up at the crack of dawn as usual, we went to Uno instead. They have awesome pizza! There is a Marble Slab Creamery a couple of doors down from there, but we were stuffed with pizza and couldn't even entertain the thought of dessert. So yummy!

There was a program going on at the Dallas Zoo on Sunday that Mia's daycare (along with several other daycares in the area) was invited to. It was called Literacy at the Zoo. A local author was there reading her new children's book and each child got a free copy of it. It's called Thumbs Up Johnnie. The main character is a thumbprint. It's cute! I got Mia's copy signed by the author, too. After that, she and I walked all around the zoo for free! You can't beat that. We saw elephants, giraffes, gorillas, and lots of other animals. Mia loved the flamingos and cheetahs the best I think. They were colorful and moved around a lot. She also thought that the meerkats were entertaining. She would smile when one would pop its head out the top of the hole.

Uncle Darvey and his girlfriend, Ruth, came down to visit for Veteran's Day. We let Mia play hookey from daycare and all of us had a great day. We went to La Calle Doce for lunch. It is a Mexican seafood restaurant. Wesley and I aren't big seafood people, so we got chicken enchiladas. The food was excellent, though. I guess Mia was jealous because we had to keep feeding her peach-flavored cereal puffs to keep her quiet. After lunch, we all went to Kidd Springs Park to feed the ducks. Mia slept through the whole thing. Oh well, next time I guess. The rest of us had fun, though. Then, we came home and played Chicken Foot dominoes for awhile. Mia must have been my good luck charm because I won! Yes! I love to win. Probably because I'm not that great at games. I have no strategy whatsoever. We had a great time with Uncle Darvey and Ruth and hope they come back soon!

Food news: My dad will be so proud. Mia likes the parsnips! Who would've thought? She genuinely enjoys them. Maybe she won't be picky like her Mommy and Daddy. She is also eating papaya now. Wesley and I thought it has a weird smell, but Mia likes to eat it. I suppose that's the most important thing. We also baked and froze the eggplant. We plan to let her start eating that tomorrow. I'm a little skeptical about it. I tried it myself, and it wasn't so great. If she likes it, I'll have to find something to mix in with it to add a little flavor.

First Halloween

Mia's first Halloween was pretty quiet. Because we did the Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, we didn't go anywhere last night on Halloween. Grammy and Pa Pa are here for the weekend, so we did a little shopping instead. We also tried out the new Greek restaurant in Bishop Arts. It's one of my favorites! We're having a great time!

Mia had her first kiwi yesterday. I was afraid that it would be too tart at first, but I had no reason to worry. I couldn't shovel it into her mouth fast enough for her. She loved it! Tonight, I made the parsnips. I peeled them, cut them in half lengthwise, and placed them on aluminum foil with a drizzle of olive oil. They smelled good coming out of the oven. Grammy and Daddy decided that the parsnips taste like a carrot with ginger on it. I think that's a pretty accurate description. Surprisingly, I liked it. I hope that Mia does too. After parsnips, Mia will get to try eggplant.
